During the next regular maintenance window, Thu Feb 2nd, the Shibboleth2 software at the Oslo hosting centre will see a minor upgrade and restart. This should not be noticeable, but may cause a brief glitch in logging in if you utilise a Shibboleth2 federation for login. Examples of such federations include the LGfL federation. For regular LDAP or AD connections this has no effect.

The upgrade is scheduled to start at 18:00 CET (Feb 2nd, 2012).

A new version of the Open Edit Save plugin for Windows, enabling you to create and edit various document types within Fronter without separate downloading and uploading, is available from Friday, Jan 20th onwards. This release improves the support for MS Office 2010.

To update your current OES plugin, or to install on new machines, please go to the Downloads section, or download the installer from http://fronter.com/*myinstallation*/oes/FronterOES.msi (change the *myinstallation* part with your own Fronter installation). Please note that for installations hosted outside of the Oslo hosting centre the domain part will vary.

We believe you expect to be able to access Fronter on tablets and mobile devices. We also believe you expect Fronter to be accessible in the most popular browsers, such as Google Chrome and Firefox even if these browsers are continuously updated. In fact, you may not even know or care that the browsers are updated, but you still expect your services to work.

Actually, we agree. This is why we, like all the best service providers on the Internet, are focusing our efforts on supporting web kits to make sure we are equally accessible from the new browsers and new devices. It is hard to set a date for when we will have reached this goal completely, but as we move forward, we must leave IE7 behind. We know that some of you still use IE7, so we want to give you as early a warning as possible so that you can change or upgrade your browsers before the release of Fronter Y12, due for release this summer.

We look forward to telling you more about Y12 in the time leading up to release. We think you will like it.

We are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of several improvements to the page tool. The improvements, including a full screen mode for pages and direct YouTube search and embed functionality, will be released on January 16th, 2012, for Y11 installations hosted in the Oslo platform. Read more about the improvements below or click here to view a video illustrating the changes.
