Fronter Y12 release letter is available!

We are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of Fronter Y12. In this release, we have focused on improving workflow and navigation in several ways. The new features include the possibility to pin room tabs, improved workflow for creating content, folders and uploading files, a maximum width for all content in Fronter, and keyboard shortcuts, together with test tool updates. 

In the future we will release new functionality in increments, rather than in large annual chunks. More functionality will become available in Fronter Y12 after the initial release. Expect to see beta versions of new hand-in and assignment tools during autumn 2012, as well as further improvements to the test tool. All upcoming releases will be communicated in a timely fashion to keep you up-to-date on developments.

Planned maintenance work on Thursday Aug 9th

The next scheduled regular maintenance for the Fronter Oslo hosting centre will take place in the evening of August 9th, the first Thursday in August.The maintenance window this time is announced to be from 17:00 CEST until 9:00 CEST the following morning.

During this maintenance window, the work will include upgrades on the integration and user provisioning services. This will imply no imports are run in the morning of Friday August 10th, while most imports are effectively switched off at that time pending data for the new school year. Additionally, SSO services such as Shibboleth and Feide are intermittently not available during the maintenance window.

Maintenance work on the content search this summer

During this summer, we are running a series of maintenance tasks on the servers running the content search engine in Fronter. This is to improve the accuracy of the search results. The tasks are scheduled to run on week 29 through week 31, July 16th until August 3rd. For any individual Fronter installation, the only noticeable effect during the maintenance is that the content search may not be available for a day at most.

New manual for Start of Year procedures

The new international version for the end of year - start of year procedures manual is now available in the Downloads section. This manual describes the routines regarding the end of a school year and the start of the new, with most attention to aspects related to automatic import of users, groups and rooms, while still covering manual setups as well.

New Fronter online help

We are pleased to announce the release of a brand new online help system for Fronter Y11. On Thursday, June 14th 2012, the help link in Fronter will point to our new system, based on MediaWiki. In addition to changing the help platform, an extensive update of the existing help contents has been done, and help text for new tools and features are added.

In the first instance, the change applies to the English language only. Other languages will use the old system until the respective localisation work is complete.
