It is possible to use external email clients like Thunderbird, Evolution, Mail.app, kMail, Opera, Outlook and Outlook Express. Any email client that support IMAP will probably work very well.

The key to setting up your external client to reading email is your email user name. If you already have Frontermail you can simply open your email inbox. You will in most designs in Fronter see the link "E-mail - settings" to your upper right in the main frame. When clicked you will get a list of your email accounts. Press the "Modify" link to the right of the account. In the resulting page expand the section "Server settings". Your username will be stated there, typically in the form @ .

In your email client the information you will need to type is:

Type of mail server/Protocol: IMAP or IMAPv4
Incoming email server: mail.fronter.com
Username: The username you located above
Password: Your Fronter email password provided by your administrator, or your Fronter login password.

To use mail.fronter.com as outgoing mail server you must use SMTP authentication. The username and password will be the same as your incoming credentials. In order to use it your email client must support TLS on port 25, or you must set it up to use port 465 and SSL.

Your email and folder structure will be kept on the server so that you are able to read your mail both in your external client and in the Frontermail web-based client.
