Changes to live Fronter
We are pleased to announce the release of major improvements into the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) tool. The improvements will be released on Friday, February 24th, on Fronter Y11.
The changes this time include both improvements to old functionality, as well as completely new features requested by the users. With these improvements, the ILP tool will fully replace the old ILP and Goal tools. These two old tools will be completely discontinued in Fronter Y12.
1. Connect goals to objects
All goals made available to a room through the Goal tool settings menu, can be connected to an object within a room. Users with Room owner and Delete access, can add goals to objects, when creating new objects, or by using 'Edit properties' to add goals to already existing objects.
Goals can be connected to the following elements in the room's resource folder.
- tests
- pages
- articles
- Fronter documents (multiple/single author)
- forum
- links
- list
- recorded sound files
- external files (e.g. pdf. word, excel etc.)
- external (uploaded) documents
- 3rd party documents
Please note that this only applies to shared resource folders and not any other types of folder, or personal folders in the top toolbar. Further, only goals selected for the room, via the room tool 'Goals' are available for
connecting to objects.
2. List of objects connected to a goal
Within the ILP, objects that are connected to the available goals will be listed below the individual goals in single student view.
The object will be listed with information about; name, accessibility (whether or not the object is accessible by the user), location (which room(s) the object is stored in), Grade/Status, and if applicable Comments, which will all be shown in the ILP
The same matrix will be shown for the list of goals in the room tool 'Goal', except for the room column.
If a user has access to the room/folder where the objects are stored, the user can click on the object. A warning message will be shown; informing the user that he/she will then leave the ILP, and enter the room. If the user chooses to continue, he/she needs to open the ILP tool, and navigate into the template again to continue working on the ILP.
The same behaviour applies for lists of objects connected to a goal in the room tool 'Goal'. In the Goal tool, users will not be able to click on the object, if it's stored in a folder where the user does not have access.
Please note that objects connected to goals will be shown in non‐matrix view only.
3. Copy/move objects
The following scenarios will be valid for copy / move functionality
- When an object connected to a goal gets copied or moved within same room, the goals will follow as well.
- When an object connected to a goal gets copied or moved to another room, the goals that are available in the target room will follow as well.
- When a room gets copied, the goals which were available in the source room will also be available in the target room except for those goals which are not available under the Org.unit the room got copied into.
- When a room gets exported, no goals will be included in the exported file.
- If user creates new room based on another room, goals in source room that are available in target room will follow. Objects connected to goals will be in place, if goals are available in target room.
4. Status Report Page
A new status report page is added next to the 'Action plan' tab. The Status Report is categorised into three different parts: Hand-‐ins, Tests and Resources. All objects connected to goals within the ILP are only displayed when the following two conditions are met:
- The last updated time should be within the ILP period
- 2. Goals that the objects are connected should be linked to the ILP
For Test and Hand-‐ins, the same logic applies. Reports are based on the last updated time stamp.
Teachers, students and parents can navigate between students’ scheduled ILPs. The name of the ILP template is now shown on the top near the top of the page, beside previous/next arrows. The user clicks on the arrows to navigate to the previous or next templates. To enter ad hoc templates, users still have to go back to the ILP list and find the correct template.
Users can navigate among all scheduled templates that are available to them; it includes Current, Future and Finished templates. Future templates will not be available to students and parents.
5. School leader
A Local Administrator can create a school leader group in the admin module, and assign that group full access to all of their students' ILPs.
In Admin / Settings / Other settings, the Local Administrator can select a school leader group. All members of selected group will get school leader privileges. School admin enters the ILP tool, and will see a Search button on the top right corner.
When the user clicks on the Search button, the school leader can search for all students within his/her org.unit level.
When a student is selected, the student’s ILP templates will be listed. The school leader can then enter an ILP template to see the student’s results in read mode.
If a user is e.g. both a school leader and tutor, he/she will see the student’s ILP template in read mode, when entering the ILP through the search view. The user has to click on the ILP tool again, and enter the ILP template directly from the list, to be able to edit / give feedback on the student’s ILP again.
6. New skin
The ILP has been given a new skin, similar to the Classic skin design. Colours, font size, alignments, size of drop down boxes, titles, menus etc. have all been changed. The ILP supports one skin only, and can ́t be changed in any way. The new skin is presented in the images added to this document.
"Enable evaluation mode" and Hide/Show matrix view buttons are moved above the list of goals, giving them more prominence and better distinguishing what actions the buttons will affect.
7. Select multiple groups to an ILP template in one go
Administrators who create or updates an ILP template can now select a node in the 'User groups connected to this ILP template' / 'Available goals' container, and drag or double click on the node to move all underlying student groups (groups connected to a tutor or subject teacher groups) to the 'Selected groups' container.
This is an improvement on the current version whereby an Administrator needs to select the student group one by one. Often we find that an Administrator wants to, for example, select all groups within a school. They can now do this in one go.
8. Select a group of goals to a topic
Users are allowed to select folders containing goals when clicking on a folder in the 'Available Goals' container for a topic. All goals that are located directly under the selected folder will be moved over to the 'Selected goal' container. If there are any other folders on a lower level, the folder(s) or any of its underlying goals will not be moved. Folders will not be moved over to the 'Selected goals' container, only goals.
The same behaviour applies when selecting goals in the room tool Goals
Please note that as of yet there is no way to deselect a number of goals in one operation, only one by one or "Remove all".
9. Administrator to lock (freeze) an ILP template
Administrators can lock (freeze) an ILP template so that all evaluation of all students in the template will be locked (frozen).
Please note that an administrator can not unlock (thaw) all students. To 'unlock' students ILP, tutor need to enter the template and unlock (thaw) one-by-‐one.
10. Name sorting
All lists of student names will be sorted in alphabetical order, sorted on Last name, First name.
11. Room tool Goal
For the room tool goal, the matrix view is default when selecting one student. For students, the matrix view will be shown as default view. The 'Select goal' drop down is improved, so that the width will not exceed the width of the goal list.
12. Removed overlapping text in some browsers
Improvements to the goal tree have been made, so that goal description is no longer overlapping when you select a goal in the goal tree, from the admin module. This now works the same in the different supported browsers.
13. Short title in the breadcrumb
Short title added to a goal or folder is now shown in the breadcrumb, if available. If goal or folder doesn’t have a short title added, the title will be shown as before. The whole path from root node in the goal tree will be shown in the path. If there are hidden folders/goals higher up on the path, those hidden folders/goals will be shown.
14. Changes to Save function in ILP
When you have unsaved data in a text field of an ILP and the user tries to navigate away, a warning message will be displayed to the user with 2 options; leave the page, where your unsaved data will be lost or stay on the page, where you can save the data and navigate away if you want.
15. Changed strings
- "Freeze template" will be renamed to "Lock template"
- "Thaw template" will be renamed to "Unlock template"
16. Other improvements:
- Room goals have room goal icons in the ILP as well as in the room.
- The Personal tool will be renamed from 'ILP (New)' to 'ILP'
- The old Personal ILP tool, will be renamed from ILP to 'ILP old version'
- Enforced goals available in the ILP template Setup is based on the user groups connected to the template, not as before when all enforced goals were available in the Setup menu.
