Please note the collection of Q & A's below applies to the Fronter Y12 release, rolled out during the autumn 2012. The collection may be updated so please watch this space. For announced Y12 changes, please see here.

Q. What is the max width for Fronter content?

To better facilitate a responsive user interface we have introduced a max width of 1440px. When the max width is reached the application will be displayed centered on the screen, filling the left and right hand side with background texture and color. This will improve the readability of content on big screens, and it makes it simpler to reach e.g. create, save and cancel buttons, and other elements placed on the right hand side in the interface.

Full screen functionality is also added, currently available as a keyboard shortcut (shift+f), giving the users the opportunity to utilize the full screen resolution if wanted. See more information about keyboard shortcuts below.

Q. How many tools can I have in the top menu?

To make sure the user can reach all personal tools from the top menu using Play, a limitation to the number of icons displayed is implemented. This means that there will never be more than 6 icons visible in the top menu. If there are more than 5 tools in the personal toolbar, the "Personal tools" menu option will appear next to “Rooms”. All personal tools will be listed in the menu, and the top four tools from the tool list will be displayed outside the menu. The Online tool is an exception to this and will always be displayed as an icon.

For the Classic design, there are no changes in the top menu at this time.

Q. Do the room tabs behave differently?

On Y12, for each visited room tab or personal tool tab during a session, a new tab will be added and it will remain available for the duration of the session, unless you specifically close it.

In line with the releasing improvements incrementally going forward, rather than large annual chunks, we are currently preparing for the possibility to be able to pin a tab as well. Pinning a tab means that you keep it for future use, so that your favourite room and personal tool tabs are ready for you when you next log in. Stay tuned for release dates.

Q. What keyboard shortcuts are available?

As of Fronter Y12, the following keyboard shortcuts are available.

Shift + a Open/close the account menu
Shift + h Open/close the keyboard shortcut help menu
Shift + r
Open/close the rooms menu
Shift + s
Go to search field
Shift + t
Open/close the tools menu
Shift + n
Open/close left menu (navigation) in room
Shift + f
Open/close full screen mode
<tab>
Move focus to next action element
<Enter>
Open selected element (as click)
Arrow keys
Navigate between tool and menu options and inside open menus.

To enable or disable the use of shortcuts is now a personal setting on the contact card. This enables you to turn off the shortcuts if you are using other tools, e.g. screen readers, with their own shortcuts.

Q. Are the old and custom designs still available?

As previously communicated, custom designs based on pre-Y11 designs (e.g. Sand, Modern) will no longer be available in Y12. Users with such a design will by default get the Classic design when upgrading to Y12. Please contact your local Fronter representative in case you are interested in customising your design within the Y12 functionality.

Q. How about logos and branding?

The Fronter logo is always displayed in the top left corner. The custom logos you can upload in admin are displayed in the top right corner (under the content search box, if this feature is enabled).

In the interest of a clean interface, the Fronter logo has been removed from the room toolbar (left hand side frame).
