TOPIC: Twitter feed help!

Twitter feed help! 1 year, 7 months ago #846

Not sure if anyone can help, I'm not too familiar with html etc., but have put a twitter widget on our staffroom page. The source is there when I view but it does not show on the frontpage - any ideas what I may be doing wrong!!!!

I think that this is because fronter strips (or does run) the code when you try and embed things on a page. There are ways around this but the easiest way is to add the link to your twitter page as a short cut. Not ideal but until iframes are allowed or embed works it is the only non html way

Embed works if you do it in source mode, but then you need to know some html. Sad that they don't have a real button for embed and changed the name of the current one to insert Youtube-clip.

iframe isn't allowed due to security reasons.

You can also read tweets as an RSS feed, from a Fronter page container. It is a bit of a hack as Twitter removed the direct RSS feed buttons unfortunately.

You will need to find out the ID of your Twitter account and then use as RSS feed URL the following: twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/XXX.rss where XXX is replaced with the correct ID (please see here for more details).

If you make a web page containing I-Frames using a desktop HTML editor (or Notepad if you like wearing hair-shirts) and upload it in a Zip then extract it the I-frames don't get stripped. Not sure if this works for Twitter widgets.
If Twitter is blocked by your ISP you still won't get it to work in school though.

Tim, great tip. Would you be able to provide a set of instructions or maybe a quick screencast of the process?
