TOPIC: Personal Rooms - what why and how to kill?

Personal Rooms - what why and how to kill? 1 year, 6 months ago #873

I vaguely remember stopping 'personal rooms' on the Fronter admin course several years ago, I cannot remember how though ... the theory at the time was that since even admin have no access to these rooms they are not safe/monitored. Students could store anything there.

When browsing the usage stats in admin a few days ago I saw that many students have somehow aquired personal rooms ... I do not know how ... Question 1: Any ideas how they might have done this ... and how to stop it? My initial thoughts are that they are yet another form of legacy from the junior schools .. but some of the students are in year 10 and are unlikely to have been using Fronter five years ago.

More importantly, I want to delete all personal rooms but have no idea where to start! ... Question 2 ... how do I delete them?

Thanks.

Hi Martin, It sounds like your referring to the My documents (My archive) tool in the personal tool bar at the top? If this is what you mean you just need to edit the students tool package and remove the My Documents tool. It will then be removed from anyone's personal tool bar who has that tool package selected. Files will still exist but they will be unable to access them or add more once the tool has been removed.

Thanks Tom

I think tht you are correct in that it is related to the top toolbar tool ... but the students have never had access to that within our institution, it is not in their toolbar (or mine).

I just want to know

1. if there is any way to delete them. As an admin of a site I would have thought that I should have access to the whole content of that site.

2. if there is a back door way in (I think of stickies ... no sticky tool in the top, but any student who has ever recieved a sticky can send new stickies by way of reply etc.) ...is there another route in?

As far as I know there is now way of doing this yourself.

During next schoolyear there is planned some develpment work on the admintool so its a good time now to send in suggestions as changerequests now before they start this work and you might get lucky.
