TOPIC: setting up groups?

setting up groups? 9 months, 1 week ago #1385

I am a bit unsure of how to explain my problem
I am at a small school where each class has a room. When the students go to this room, I would like to have folders for the different subjects on the left side (when looking at the screen) Like English, Norwegian. How do I do this?

When you read the solution you're going to think "isn't there a shorter way to do this?" - if there is a shorter way then I have yet to find it so:

Helpful tip before you start: have notepad open for copying/pasting if you need to do this more than once.

Step 1: On your Frontpage (yes - I do mean Frontpage) - create an internal link to the subject folder/room that you want on the left hand side of your screen.

Step 2: Once you have created the link - edit it - this will show you the last half of the URL you need to create the link you need on the left hand side (eg - /harrow/links/link.phtml?idesc=13&iid=2685 ). Copy and paste this into notepad.

Step 3: Click on "Room" on the left hand side then click "Customise tool package" from the 'choose' menu (top right).

Step 4: Select "new tool" then click on "user-defined button" at the very bottom of the page.

Step 5: Add an appropriate title (eg English/Norwegian/etc) then edit the URL - you already have the last half of the URL you need so you just need the first half which is 'fronter.com' - combine the two together to create the URL ( eg fronter.com/harrow/links/link.phtml?idesc=13&iid=2685 )

Step 6: click "save" and then change the order of the buttons as appropriate.

Step 7: delete the links you created on your Frontpage because you won't need them any more

It's not an elegant solution but it will get the job done.

Hi,

You can also add several Resource tools onto the left hand frame, and rename the appropriately. That is, from the New tool step onwards, add one or more new Resources and then edit the title.

You can check this Teacher start up manual (pdf), from page 23 onwards.

Hope this helps,
